KARGIL - defeat after victory?

Kargil war - 26th July,1999 - vijay diwas for india.
India wins the war. Lives lost (537). Pakistani lives lost (unknown).

lets have a discussion and not a debate about the kargil war. please post your point of view on the war.
Was it necessary?
Was it worth the lives lost on both the sides?
Was it a victory or defeat for India from a strategic point of view?

  1. i guess this war was indeed necessary to remind pakistan that we wud never be mute spectators if they carry out cross-border terrorism and a violent stranglehold on our territory. Besides India never started it in the first place, so it became a matter of self-defence than anything else.
Nobody wishes to see the countless bodies of our valiant soldiers even if they have laid their lives in the line of duty. But as they say , to preserve peace ,we need to be prepared for war.
It was a monumental victory for the Indian Armed Forces. The Pak Army was crushed and guillitoned to death and were reminded of their 1965 and 71 crushing war defeats. Pakistan though managed to catch us by surprise that sent the political and bureaucratic class in a tizzy.. All credit to the ever-vigilant armed forces though..

  2. solely from a strategic point of view, pakistan considers the war a victory since it was only after the war that india/pakistan talks initiated.
It was only after the war that the 2 countries met face to face for talks.
considering the talks to be a succes or failure is a whole another discussion.
For me personally no amount of talking across tables can lead to a positive sloution or outcome.
